The NCAA won't make a decision on the University of North Dakota's "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo until January 2006 at the earliest.
A staff review found the nickname and logo to be hostile and abusive to Native Americans.
The school has appealed to the NCAA executive committee, which will consider the issue at a meeting on January 9, 2006.
Most Sioux tribes have passed resolutions against the name.
