Two more universities have dropped their use of Indian imagery after their nicknames were deemed hostile and abusive by the NCAA.
Carthage College in Wisconsin is going from the "Redmen" to the "Red Men" and will remove references to Indian symbols. Midwestern State University in Texas will no longer be known as the "Indians" and will remove the name from its basketball court.
In August, the NCAA adopted a policy against the use of Indian mascots. The policy doesn't require schools to change their mascots but bars them from hosting post-season tournaments.
Of the 18 on the original list, at least two schools -- Carthage and Midwestern -- have changed their names in response to the policy. Two schools -- Florida State and Central Michigan -- have won exemptions after showing support from the local or "namesake" tribe.
At least three schools -- University of North Dakota, Newberry and Bradley -- have lost appeals.
Another school -- the University of Illinois -- is still mounting its appeal.
