Pequot Tribe meeting with foes delayed

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2001 The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation won't be meeting with three Connecticut towns to discuss land-into-trust issues until sometime after October 1, says Chairman Kenneth Reels. The tribe has meetings on September 27 and on October 1, two dates that had been suggested by freshman Congressman Rob Simmons (R-Conn.). Simmons is coordinating the meetings between the tribe and the towns. The towns are opposing attempts by the tribe to seek trust land. The tribe has proposed to limit its land-into-trust applications to 880 acres over the next 35 years. Get the Story:
