NIGC says Meskwaki Tribe in violation of IGRA

THURSDAY, MAY 1, 2003 The National Indian Gaming Commission plans to fine the Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa $20,000 a day unless control of the tribe's casino is returned to the elected council, according to news reports. The tribe's casino could also be closed. The tribe's elected council was replaced by an appointed council. According to news accounts, NIGC says the appointed council members are in violation of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Get the Story:
