White House silent on Santorum's remarks on gays

THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 2003 White House spokesperson Ari Fleischer on Wednesday refused to comment on remarks by Senator Rick Santorum, the third-ranking Senate Republican who compared gays to criminals. Fleischer ducked three questions about Santorum's remarks. He said President Bush wouldn't comment about pending Supreme Court cases. Santorum had spoken about the case, involving a ban on sex between men, but also went onto say that homosexual behavior is "deviant" and threatens to "undermine the basic tenets of our society and the family." GOP leaders are defending Santorum, of Pennsylvania. Get the Story:
