Meeting addresses changes at failing Indian school

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2003 A meeting was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to address a proposed overhaul of a public school aimed at educating Indian students. The Four Winds American Indian Magnet School was started in 1991 to promote Native language and culture. Today, less than half of its students are Indian. The school superintendent wants to return to the school's original mission, get rid of the principal, move to a new building and require staff to reapply for positions. Community leaders said they support the plan. But some school officials criticized it. Get the Story:
