THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2003 Voters of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota elected a new chairman on Tuesday. According to unofficial results, Peter D. White won the election. He replaces Eli Hunt, who was recalled for what he said was a gang-related opposition. An investigation has turned up ties between gang activity and the elections, The Bemidji Pioneer reported. One council member, who denies there is a gang problem on the reservation, has regular conversations with tribal members, said to be members of the Native Mob Gang, and has family members who are part of the gang.
