Members of the Leech Lake Ojibwe Band of Minnesota voted Chairman Eli O. Hunt out of office on Friday.

The vote against Hunt was 818 to 635. He linked his ouster to a gang on the reservation called the Native Mob.

The gang is being targeted by federal officials who say its members are responsible for a high rates of crime and drug activity.

Vice Chairman Richard Robinson Jr. will act as chairman until a special election is held within three months.
