New England towns fear Indian casinos

FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 2002 An organization representing 35 rural towns in' Connecticut and Massachusetts is officially gone on record in opposition to casinos. The Quinebaug Shetucket National Heritage Corridor Inc. fears that federal recognition of tribes in the area will lead to casino development. The Nipmuc Nation of Massachusetts was denied federal status by Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb last fall. Get the Story:
