Alaska residents question pipeline push

MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2002 Some residents in Alaska want the Department of Interior to release more information about its plans to renew leases for the trans-Alaska oil pipeline corridor. A meeting in Cordova saw heavy opposition to the proposal, according to The Anchorage Daily News. In Valdez, there was hardly any comment, however. Several Alaska Native and environmental groups asked Secretary Gale Norton to extend public comment but she turned down the request. Comments close on August 20. Get the Story:
