Norton rebuffs Alaska Native request

The Department of Interior won't extend a public comment period affecting an Alaska oil pipeline.

Alaska Natives and environmentalists asked for an extension, citing the lengthy document and other concerns. The Bureau of Land Management denied the request and comments will close August 20 as originally planned.
