A federal judge in Rhode Island has ordered Narragansett chief sachem Matthew Thomas to testify in a lawsuit alleging tribal mismanagement.

Thomas and another tribal official filed suit in state court, claiming that a tribal housing report wrongly slandered them. But after a state judge ordered Thomas to testify, he took the matter to federal court. The tribe's lawyer is considering an appeal.
