Ousted San Carlos Apache leader is re-elected
Wednesday, November 12, 2003

Voters of the San Carlos Apache Tribe of Arizona re-elected vice-chairman Robert E. Howard in a special vote held last week.

In August, the tribal council ousted Howard because of his run-ins with the law. Howard had outstanding warrants for assault and drunken driving that allegedly occurred off-reservation. The warrants came to light only after Howard suspended the tribal police chief, who later had Howard arrested.
