Editorial: White House actions on trust 'contemptible'
Friday, November 7, 2003
The White House's moves to delay the Indian trust fund lawsuit are
"underhanded and slimy" even by Washington standards, The Arizona Republic says in an editorial.
Calling the trust fund fiasco "the crime of two centuries," the paper says a rider in an appropriations bill is "a direct intrusion of one branch of the federal government on another.."
"But legality aside, it still could manage the mischievous goal of stalling a settlement," the paper says. "And that is just contemptible."
