Carson and Cole argue against trust fund rider
Friday, October 31, 2003

Two Oklahoman Congressmen who are tribal members argued against the inclusion of a rider that delays a court-ordered accounting of the Indian trust.

Rep. Tom Cole (R) is a member of the Chickasaw Nation and Brad Carson (D) is a member of the Cherokee Nation. Both spoke on the House floor to urge members to reject the Department of Interior's budget bill.

Cole and Carson voted down the bill. But only Carson voted to send the bill back to a conference committee for more work. Cole joined most Republicans in opposing the motion to recommit.
