Lakota group seeks protection of Black Hills
Friday, September 19, 2003

A benefit rally was held for the Defenders of the Black Hills in Rapid City, South Dakota, on Thursday.

The group, a grassroots organization of Lakota activists, is fighting to protect sacred sites in the Black Hills. It is one of the plaintiffs in a lawsuit challenging a shooting range near Bear Butte, which is used for ceremonies, pilgrimages and offerings.

Winona La Duke, former Green Party vice presidential candidate, spoke at the rally.
