N.C. tribe boosting efforts for federal recognition

The Haliwa-Saponi Tribe of North Carolina plans to hold a summit next month to bolster its bid for federal recognition.

The tribe hopes to use the summit as a tool to educate the public, lawmakers and government agencies. The tribe has submitted a petition for federal acknowledgment to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
