Thursday, August 14, 2003

A memorial service was held on Tuesday for Peter John, a traditional Athabaskan chief who died August 8 at the age of 102.

John was remembered as someone who loved his people. Tanana Chiefs Conference president Buddy Brown said John spent his life sharing his knowledge in order to keep Athabaskans healthy, sober and strong.

John was buried in the village of Minto, where he spent most of his life, on Wednesday. More than 600 attended the funeral, The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.
