Nebraska tribes holding Native Vote 2004 forum

The Omaha Tribe and the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska are holding a Native Vote 2004 candidates' forum. The tribes have invited candidates for the Thurston County Board of Commissioners and the Omaha and Winnebago boards of education. The county is 52 percent Native American but Native representation has historically been low in county politics. The tribes are currently backing a recall effort of the Thurston County attorney and sheriff. Tribal leaders say both are ignoring their Native constituents by pursuing anti-Indian actions, including siding against tribes in the U.S. v. Lara case. Get the Story:
