Ariz. tribes awarded more than $8M for housing

Four tribes in Arizona have been awarded more than $8 million in grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The tribes will use Indian Community Block Development Grant funds for housing rehabilitation, land acquisition to support new housing construction and for improvements to public infrastructure facilities. "This important funding will assist in the development of viable Native American communities through decent housing, a suitable living environment, and the creation of economic opportunities principally for persons of low and moderate income," said Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.). The following grants were awarded:
Navajo Nation - Public Facilities Infrastructure - $4,345,947
White Mountain Apache Tribe - Public Facility & Special Needs - $2,750,000
Camp Verde Yavapai-Apache Nation - Public Facility & Special Needs - $605,000
San Carlos Apache Tribe Housing Rehabilitation - $375,000 Related Stories:
