Indian law case before Supreme Court
It was bound to happen sooner or later. The Supreme
Court has taken on an Indian law case.
As with others in the past, the White Mountain Apache
Tribe's case has the potential to affect tribes
everywhere if the decision is negative.
But if it's positive, the tribe stands to gain
repairs worth $14 million to a crumbling Army
fort.
The Court is likely to hear the case in November
with a decision to follow.

Land claim dispute back in Congress
Congress has been given one more chance to
resolve Sandia Pueblo's long-standing land claim.
The objections of Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) effectively
killed a settlement last year.
But he, along with other parties in the dispute,
are now hoping to resolve the issue to stem off
future litigation.
The deadline for passage of the
bill is November of this year.
