The Bureau of Indian Affairs has added another 104 acres to the reservation of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community in Minnesota.

Assistant Secretary Kevin Washburn signed the reservation proclamation on September 22, according to a notice that was published in today's issue of the Federal Register. The land is located in Scott County.

The addition is the second for the tribe in the past two years. A proclamation for 569 acres, also in Scott County, was issued in July 2014.

The tribe owns more than 3,760 acres, according to its website. Of that amount, about 1,843 acres -- not including the two recent proclamations -- are in trust so the additions represent a significant step for the tribe, whose land-into-trust applications have faced legal challenges for more than a decade.
