Editorial: Oklahoma tribes step up to keep state parks operating

"The Chickasaw Nation has joined the list of public-spirited entities that have stepped forward to operate state parks that were being shut down by the Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation.

The tribe and the state agency have signed an agreement for the tribe to assume management and operations of the Boggy Depot State Park near Atoka. The agreement will allow the park to stay open while the details of a long-term agreement can be worked out.

Like several state parks, Boggy Depot has historical significance in addition to its recreational possibilities. The site was used as a Confederate commissary depot during the Civil War."
