Chickasaw Nation to manage state park that was about to close

The Chickasaw Nation has reached an agreement to manage a park for the state of Oklahoma.

The tribe will take over operations of the Boggy Depot State Park on August 16. The park would have otherwise closed due to state budget cuts.

"We are very pleased to have the opportunity to operate this facility, because Boggy Depot has great historical significance to the Chickasaw and Choctaw nations,” Gov. Bill Anoatubby said in a press release.

Another tribe, the Osage Nation, has agreed to operate Wah-Sha-She State Park for the state.
