Lumbee Tribe ordered to pay $115K for misusing HUD funds

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has been ordered to repay upwards of $115,000 in Indian housing funds, The Fayetteville Observer reports.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development said the tribe misused a federal grant on the salary of a tribal administrator, on a contract with a consulting firm and on travel to the 25th annual Reservation Economic Summit last month in Las Vegas.

The tribe must repay the funds by June 6, the paper said.
