Survivors of abuse meet for HOPE Conference in Montana

Survivors of child abuse met last week in Montana for the second annual HOPE Conference.

This year's theme was "Child Sexual Trauma in Indian Country: Past, Present and Future." Attendees learned about the Tribal Law and Order Act, healing and a $166.1 million settlement for victims of abuse by Jesuit priests on reservations in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.

"Instead of being taught to read and write, they were sexually molested and taught shame, humiliation and embarrassed by these Jesuit priests," attorney Blaime Tamaki said, NBC Montana reported.
