Two Spirit Lake Dakotah council members listed in indictments

Two leaders of the Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation of North Dakota have been named in indictments in connection with the theft of money from the tribe's low-income fuel assistance program.

But Justin Yankton, who is secretary-treasurer, and Carl Walking Eagle have yet to appear in court on charges, The Grand Forks Herald reported. However, Brooke Black, who is Yankton's girlfriend, and Barbara Walking Eagle Walking Eagle's wife, have been arrested, the paper said.

Another woman, Patricia Robertson, also known as Patti Cavanaugh, also has been arrested. All face a charge of embezzlement and theft from an Indian tribal organization.
