Oglala woman arrested for death of Omaha toddler
Tuesday, March 24, 2009

A member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe was arrested on Monday in connection with the death of an Omaha toddler.

Authorities tracked down Tisha Vega, 34, in Pennsylvania after The Sioux City Journal found her address through a public records search. She is charged with manslaughter and faces extradition to Nebraska, where Nathaniel Saunsoci-Mitchell died in September 2006

"It is about time," said Adriana Saunsoci, Nathaniel's grandmother, told the paper. "It just gave us chills up our spines."

Nathaniel was 20 months old when he died of blunt force trauma to the head. He had been placed in the Vega home by the Omaha Tribe's child welfare services agency.

Authorities said the Vegas left Nebraska for the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and moved several times before settling in Pennsylvania.
