Omaha Tribe 'silent' on death of toddler, attorney says
Friday, June 15, 2007

The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska has been "silent" about a toddler who died in foster care, Dakota County Attorney Ed Matney said.

Matney has been investigating the death of Nathaniel Saunsoci-Mitchell, an Omaha tribal member who died at 20 months of age. But he said there isn't enough evidence so far to bring charges against any person.

Matney is seeking more information about Nathaniel in hopes of bringing a case. The Omaha Tribe placed Nathaniel in foster care off the reservation.

Tisha and Carlos Vega, Nathaniel's foster parents, have since moved to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
