Indian candidate loses primary in New Mexico
Benny Shendo Jr., a member of Jemez Pueblo, said he will back former rival Ben Ray Lujan, for New Mexico's 3rd Congressional District after losing the Democratic primary on Tuesday.

Shendo came in third behind Lujan and another Democrat. The race became particularly heated in the final weeks up to the primary. Lujan will face Republican Dan East in the general electoin.

In other New Mexico primary news, Rep. Steve Pearce defeated Rep. Heather Wilson in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Pete Domenici. Pearce will face Rep. Tom Udall (D) in November.
