Tribal critic cites 'political terrorism' over recall

A county commissioner in Oregon is blaming the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians for trying to recall her.

Marilyn Kittelman of the Douglas County faces a recall over her controversial stances against the tribe. She is opposing the tribe's land-into-trust application and has been accused of making disparaging statements about Native Americans.

But she says "wealthy" people in the county have joined the tribe in trying to silence the public. "History will begin again this Sept. 11 when the current cloud of political terrorism will come to an end," she said at a rally on Monday, The Roseburg News-Review reports.

Kittelman is affiliated with One Nation, a group critical of tribal sovereignty and federal Indian policy. She previously denied being tied to the group.
