Pine Ridge judge bars state GOP from reservation

A judge on the Pine Ridge Reservation has barred the South Dakota Republican Party from watching Tuesday's election but the U.S. Attorney says the tribe lacks jurisdiction over the matter.

The state GOP was accused of videotaping workers for Four Directions Committee, a group organizing the Indian vote. In response, the committee obtained a tribal court order against the party and a former employee who said he wasn't on the reservation at all.

U.S. Attorney James McMahon said the order is unlawful and that he won't force it on November 2. "We'll be there, regardless," the party's executive director told The Rapid City Journal.
