House panel to hold hearing on Osage membership

The House Resources Committee is holding a field hearing March 15 on a bill to reaffirm the sovereign powers of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma.

Based on a 1906 law, the Bureau of Indian Affairs only recognizes four members, all of whom are elderly. Rep. Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) introduced H.R.2912 to ensure the tribe can define its own enrollment standards.
