The Jamul Indian Village of California marked a milestone in construction for its $360 million casino. The tribe completed the $36 million site excavation for the 200,000 square-foot facility. That means the project is a third of the way through. “Today is another important milestone on our path to economic self sufficiency,” Chairman Raymond Hunter said in a press release today . “I am proud to be standing on the foundation of an economic engine that will ultimately generate high quality education, healthcare, and sufficient housing for our tribal members.” The tribe has faced numerous legal challenges but none have derailed the casino.
