The Northern Arapaho Tribe of Wyoming will be expanding its gaming enterprise thanks to a 20-year extension of its Class III gaming procedures.

After a lengthy battle with the state, the tribe won the right to engage in Class III gaming in 2005. The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the tribe's secretarial procedures later that year and signed off on some amendments in 2007.

The procedures were due to run until 2020. The BIA has since agreed to extend the date to 2040, a move that will enable the tribe to secure additional finance to expand its operation.

"This is the biggest development in tribal gaming at Wind River since the Arapaho Tribe won approval for full Class III gaming in 2005,” Chairman Darrell O’Neal Sr. said in a press release, County 10 reported. “It will lead to hundreds of new jobs and a big boost to economic development in Fremont County.”

The tribe operates three gaming facilities on the Wind River Reservation.
