Newspaper welcomes new Class II gaming facility from the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians:
We were pleased to see that construction will begin soon of a new gaming facility by the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians.

To be clear, we’re not necessarily cheering more slots or games of chance. Goodness knows, there are plenty of people who see these facilities as a vice that society would do well without. We appreciate their point of view.

What we’re cheering is new business. Three Rivers Casino Coos Bay will bring some fresh commerce that will create jobs both during construction and after, and bring more dollars into the region.

The Confederated Tribes have been good business neighbors in that respect for decades. The Mill Casino-Hotel has become, as it approaches its 20th anniversary, a hub for commercial activities over and above its central purpose. A recent example was the Monaco International RV Club gathering earlier this month. Other annual cultural events help to share tribal values and traditions and educate their neighbors and visitors to the region.
