The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians in California has hired an Internet gaming expert to run a new venture.

Matthew Cullen will serve as CEO of San Manuel Digital LLC. The new company will look for ways to tap into the Internet gaming and social gaming market.

"San Manuel looks to the future with a clear understanding that technology will be a critical factor to the success of the gaming and entertainment industry overall, and has created San Manuel Digital to direct development and pursue opportunities in that area," Chair Carla Rodriguez said in a press release. "Mr. Cullen's skills, expertise and history of success in interactive and social gaming will enhance our ability to maintain a leadership position in the industry."

Federal law bars Internet gaming unless it is conducted under a Class III gaming compact or under state law. Lawmakers in California are debating bill to legalize online poker.
