The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians is closer to a new Class III gaming compact for its casino in California. The tribe signed a new deal with Gov. Jerry Brown (D) last November. It lowers the revenue sharing rate at the Red Hawk Casino, which has not been performing as well as expected, although business has been improving, Lakes Entertainment, the tribe's partner, reported earlier this month. The California Senate approved the compact by a unanimous vote on Friday. It now goes to the Assembly. The compact will still need to be approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. And the tribe must restructure about $500 million in debt before it goes into effect, The Sacramento Bee reports. A copy of the compact can be found on the governor's web site. Get the Story:
