Yellow Bird: Rebate forms difficult but addictive

TUESDAY, MAY 27, 2003

"To rebate or not to rebate: That is the question of the day when you walk into electronics shops, department stores, car dealerships and just about anywhere else. If you are not familiar with rebates, and I don't know anyone who isn't, they are usually hidden. What you see on the sales shelf is the product price WITH the rebate. So I think, "Hey, a good deal." And I buy it.

When you get the product home, and let's say it's a new keyboard for your computer, you unwrap the new toy. You attach it and start to tap, tap out words of wisdom. Then you remember that unless you send in the rebate, the product is not a bargain.

So you begin the rebate process."
