"Now that the "Fighting Sioux" controversy has "simmered" down a bit, I thought maybe it would be appropriate to say something about this issue that has divided so many people.

I have observed many non-Indian supporters blow "steam" since the retirement of the name and logo as it was announced by the State Board of Higher Education. A lot of "racist" behavior has also resurfaced bringing out the worst of non-indian people. These kind of insensitive acts and behavior is an example why the use of our imagery has to end. This issue has divided the tribal communities as well.

When it was decided North Dakota Sioux tribes be the deciding factor if the name and logo can continue to be used myself and others had to contest that decision brought forth by the non-Indian community.

Tribal members, no matter what affiliation they come from, are highly affected by the use of our imagery. For example on a previous roster, a steer performing a sexual act on an Indian is a perfect example of insensitive behavior toward the use of Indian imagery. This poster appeared before a "Fighting Sioux vs. Texas team game.

I have reason to believe if the name wasn't retired, then other action would have taken place in a federal courtroom."
