The North Dakota Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a lawsuit over the controversial "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo of the University of North Dakota.
Members of the Spirit
Lake Dakotah Nation who support the name filed the lawsuit. They want to stop UND and the North Dakota Board of
Higher Education from getting rid of the name before a November 30 deadline.
The tribal members say UND needs to give the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe more time to make a decision on the issue. The Spirit Lake Tribe already voted to support the name.
But State Solicitor General Doug Bahr said UND can get rid of the name even if it wins the support of both tribes.
