Leaders of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe will consider a petition that that seeks a reservation-wide vote on the controversial "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo of the University of North Dakota.
Archie Fool Bear, a nickname supporter, believes the tribal council will support a vote. He gathered 1,004 signatures for the petition.
Under a settlement with the NCAA, UND agreed to eliminated "Fighting Sioux" unless it could get the support of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Spirit Lake Dakotah
Nation. Members of the Spirit Lake Nation already voted to support the name.
The deadline for UND to gain tribal support is November.
