The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Idaho passed a resolution in support of the $3.4 billion settlement to the Indian trust fund lawsuit.

About 2,500 tribal members should be eligible for the settlement. "A lot of our elderly people and those in poverty need this money; it may be their only chance to get something,” Ernestine Werelus, the director of the Fort Hall Landowners Alliance, an independent group on the reservation, told The Blackfoot Morning News.

“We believe that the last 13 years of litigation have negatively impacted tribal-federal relations and we look forward to putting this longstanding trust fund mismanagement issue behind us,” the resolution passed by the tribal council stated.

The tribe is hosting Geoffrey Rempel and Alex Pearl, of the Cobell litigation team, today to discuss the settlement.
