A jury in New Mexico found a driver accused of killing William Tenorio of San
Felipe Pueblo guilty of vehicular homicide after a high-profile and controversial trial.
Carlos Fierro, 36, an attorney and lobbyist who has worked on Indian issues, struck Tenorio, 46, in the early morning hours of November 26, 2008.
He admitted he was driving drunk but placed some blame on Tenorio for the accident that has dominated headlines in the state for the past few months.
Fierro's attorneys plan to ask for a new trial, citing conduct by the prosecutors and confusing instructions to the jury.
Prosecutors must consider whether to retry Fierro on a charge of causing a fatal accident because the jury failed to reach a verdict on that count.
