A man accused of striking and killing William Tenorio of San Felipe Pueblo in New Mexico is set to take the stand in his trial.
Carlos Fierro, 36, an attorney and lobbyist who has worked on Indian issues, is charged with vehicular homicide and causing a fatal accident. Police say he struck and killed Tenorio, who was 46, after a night of heavy drinking in downtown Santa Fe.
Fierro's trial began on Monday. The prosecution could rest its case as early as today, The Santa Fe New Mexican reported.
According to the paper, defense attorneys plan to call only two witnesses: an accident reconstruction expert and Fierro, who will admit he was drinking. But he denies intentionally striking Tenorio in the early morning hours of November 26, 2008.
