DOJ reports no change in Indian jail population

The Department of Justice on Wednesday said there was no change in the Indian Country jail population.

A report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics said there were 1,745 inmates in Indian Country detention facilities in 2005. That was the same figure that was reported in 2005.

There was no explanation for the lack of change. Prior reports have documented a rise in the Indian country jail population, with most facilities overcrowded.

According to the report, the overall U.S. inmate population rose by 2.8 percent.
