The mother of teen who attempted suicide at a detention facility on the Yakama Reservation in Washington has filed a negligence lawsuit against the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Susan Moses blames the BIA for leaving her 17-year-old son alone in a cell intended for adults. The teen used exposed electrical or phone wires to hang himself last year. He spent nearly a week in the hospital and suffers from memory loss, Moses said.
The jail has since been shut down. Two adult inmates committed suicide there in the past, The Yakima Herald-Republic reported.
