About 700 members of the Bari Tribe of Colombia staged a protest on Columbus Day against oil drilling on their territory.
The tribe wants Ecopetrol, the government-owned oil company, to stop drilling on sacred land adjacent to the reservation. Ecopetrol has stepped up its exploration.
The protest took place in Tibu, which is surrounded by vast oil and coal reserves. Illegal coca cultivation also occurs there.
