The American Indian Movement of Colorado offered to drop its Columbus Day parade protests but was rejected by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, who said he won't denounce the controversial parade.
AIM offered a list of suggestions in hopes of healing divisions caused by the parade. Hickenlooper said he's "always willing to help" facilitate dialogue between American Indians and Italian-Americans but said AIM's deal wouldn't have resolved any issues.
The parade will take place Saturday, October 8. AIM and other activists are planning some form of protest.
