Italians to boycott Columbus Day

Eleven Italian-American groups in Colorado said on Tuesday they will boycott an upcoming Columbus Day parade in Denver being held by another Italian organization.

Due to the recent terrorist attacks, the groups said it would not be appropriate to attend. They are urging others to boycott.

Even though his parade has the words "Columbus Day" in the title, organizer C.M. Mangiaracina says it will not be a tribute to that famed explorer. He says it will honor those who died in the terrorist attacks.

American Indian and Hispanic groups have opposed the parade celebrating Columbus.

The Transform Columbus Day Alliance is holding its own set of events.
